Snow Wax Iron

Ski

  • Design a compact tool capable of withstanding harsh winter conditions while allowing skiers and snowboarders to wax their equipment anywhere, without relying on full workshop setups.

  • Cork, metal, ABS plastic, rubber seals, battery, rotary encoder, and internal electronics.

  • The goal was to create a retro-inspired, weatherproof waxing tool that feels at home in ski and snowboard environments while remaining highly functional and modular.

This modular ski-waxing iron is designed for on-the-go use, enabling users to complete a full wax tune in the back of a car, at the base lodge, or on the hill. The sealed housing protects internal components from cold, moisture, and debris, while interchangeable attachments; including a heated iron plate, cleaning brush, and wax catcher allow the tool to adapt to different stages of the waxing process. The compact form factor, durable materials, and tactile controls combine to create a single, efficient system that replaces multiple traditional tools, making maintenance faster, cleaner, and more accessible in winter environments.

Making sure the iron was modular and adaptable while still being fully weather resistant was extremely challenging. Designing it to function reliably in cold temperatures, snow, and wet conditions without damaging the electronics was by far the hardest part of the project. Balancing protection, usability, and modularity required careful material choices, sealing strategies, and repeated testing before the design felt dependable in harsh environments.
